Character: Jade Harley

Reference link:  Jade's Wiki Page | Facility Premise
Reference picture: Here. In addition, because of her time spent at the Facility, Jade also has a thin, silver collar around her neck engraved with the figure DH1B. Also, she is missing two fingers on her left hand, and has a large scar on her shoulder (like something took a bite out of it, and then the part was reattached).

World Addition: Jade's world addition is awful cardboard-tasting nutritional bars -- just one will fill you up for an entire meal! If you…can get past the fact that they taste godawful and aren't made better by anything.

Why is your character here: Jade didn't want to be terminated from the Facility -- I mean, no one wants to die, but Jade had a lot of things to do. When she died, she still wanted to make her friends feel wanted and important, and help the station as it continued on the way to a new planet and a new life not driven by the fact that they have weekly torture experiments meant to make them into clone soldiers. She had a lot of regrets -- things she never got to say or do -- and wanted to change that! She couldn't die without helping someone, or saving her friends. So she forced herself to come to decollage. There was never any doubt that she wanted to do something to help her friends, even after death.

Character history:
On April 13th, 2009 Jade and her three friends (Dave, Rose, and John) began playing SBURB, a game that rained meteors down on earth, destroyed humanity, and sucked them into an alternate video game reality where they were told to "make a new universe". Because Jade had been dreaming on Prospit, the moon that allowed her to catch glimpses of the future, for most of her life (think…since 5!), she was fully prepared for the inevitable, and created John's birthday present in order to save him from certain peril. Unfortunately, Jade's l33t haxx0rs bunny rabbit also helped Jack Noir to ascend to greater power, creating a nigh unbeatable boss who really liked destroying things and ruining all sorts of plans… including Jade's dreaming life on Prospit (she died saving John from a horrible accident).

Thankfully after that, Jade threw her energy into helping her friends -- she entered the game and began immediately trying to create the Universe Frog that would grow into the next world, a better world. With some help from her denizen, Echidna, and Dave (the resident Time player), Jade was able to start creating it…until Jack showed up and killed Dave! But due to a glitch in the system, Jack was unable to kill Jade outright after she entered the game -- and actually, when she died, he ended up saving her because he felt guilty about getting someone to kill her in the first place. He took her to her quest bed and she ascended to god tier, saving her friends from ultimate destruction by BUSTING THROUGH THE FOURTH WALL on a giant golden ship while Rose and Dave traveled via meteor to the same destination.

After two years of relationship and general teenage shenanigans on a giant ship with only two friends and a lot of monsters for company, Jade…well, was cloned and sent to the Alpha Omega station! Where she was quickly told hi, you're a clone with the memories of who you really were, but you could die at any moment. Don't worry, that's natural. Also, did you know you're here to be turned into a fighting machine through a series of torture experiments every week? No? Well, good luck.

Starting with Saw Week on her first week, Jade was thrown into a mixture of horror and…occasionally good times too. With all of her friends there with her, torture experiments weren't so bad -- and sometimes they were fun, like getting to live a different life for a week, or being thrown into a virtual reality world. But finally, with the help of John and Jack and a whole lot of other people, the "lab rats" got tired of playing it nice, and broke out of their confined prison area, leading to a full-out battle with the doctors and interns that worked on the Alpha Omega. Not a single intern was left alive, and Jade was definitely not innocent in their demise, something she still regrets. But after the break out, life was a lot nicer -- people could live in real houses with their friends, not in tiny "cages" of rooms.

…at least, until the Doctors who had escaped decided to take revenge on the station. Yet another all-out battle ensued, this time with even more damage; Dave died (thank goodness he was god tier and came back!), Jack died and…didn't come back, Jade lost some fingers and a good bit of her shoulder -- no one was left untouched, and the station was wrecked. The residents were forced back into the small rooms for a month while the station was repaired, but the robot in charge, Val, wasn't at all well. In fact, now she was crazier than ever! Which…didn't bode well for the people who were living there. Experiments got more wild, and everything started to go wrong. Jade was living with a lot of guilt -- and then, because she wasn't "doing enough" to provide data….suffered a clone stroke and died, issuing her termination and subsequent incineration.

Character personality:
The first thing anyone notices when seeing Jade is generally her optimism and good natured speech style. This is fairly indicative of her personality; Jade believes in being nice to those who are nice in return, and is a big believer in second chances. She's a friendly, outgoing person who likes to think on the positive side -- even when the odds are against her, for example when she's told that the Scratch will obliterate her and her friends, she's determined to be the optimist, the person who keeps looking for a different answer. Mostly, this is because she's concerned for her friends; Jade legitimately takes pleasure in making her friends happy and keeping them safe. It is one of the biggest things that drives her -- she looks for the way to make a new universe because she believes that if she has her friends beside her and some good advice, she cannot fail. Not to say that she's completely dependent on her friends; Jade's a very independent person, taking charge in a lot of situations, like…household cleaning around Dave's apartment and getting everything set up so that the carapace in the future have everything they'll need for their plans to succeed. And even in saving the world, Jade didn't need much help. She'll rely on her intuition and trust that everything will work out…and usually it does! She's pretty smart! But when it doesn't, she has her friends to fall back on, and she's quick to pick herself up when she's down in the dumps.

However, Jade's temper can be short once and awhile, particularly with people who can't seem to do anything for themselves. Case in point: Jadesprite, whose constant stream of tears caused Jade to start screaming and slapping her. Mostly, Jade hates people who say that something is fatalistic -- that nothing will ever change it, that things are the way they are and they will never change. Which is why she detests that Jadesprite was part of herself, and even though now she accepts this fact, she still doesn't like the idea that not knowing what to do means she can sit in a corner and never do anything. She's an active person, and nothing will stop her. Karkat gets this side of Jade, as well -- she hates the idea that someone could fight with themselves so stupidly, and even cusses them out before ragequitting. She accepts that a person can hate a part of themselves -- this is normal. But blaming it on some other part of yourself that you don't accept is ridiculous and dumb. You have to be the whole person, or you're not yourself at all.

Skill loss or memory loss? Memory loss!

Amnesiac Personality:
Jade is, and always has been, a very open person in terms of her personality and feelings. This is something that won't change without memories -- in fact, she'll even be more open, with no reason to hide things from her friends or concern that she might mess up grand plans by blabbing too much. She doesn't have any worries about grand schemes; Jade might actually get to live like a normal teenager for once, and will probably be be very confused when she gets some memories back of being very naive! She'll finally get to experience things and live on the wild side; she's never had any reservations about exploring before, so she'll still be adventurous and spunky, with plenty of things to look at and poke around with.

Jade will also still keep her temper -- she was never closed off about it before, but since she won't remember that she usually takes the tactic of "ignore and they'll go away," she might be a little bit more confrontational depending on what she's arguing. She'll still have very big ideas and lots of ways to dispense information; and she'll still be pretty determined to get things done! Her friends will still be very important to her, but she'll make new friends; her world will be opened up much more, with all sorts of new ideas and be pretty malleable, the way that her friends in canon influences how she thinks sometimes, and how she behaves around them. She'll still be willing to fight for her friends; trauma games will be her enemy! She'll try to do anything to keep her friends from being hurt, because that's a part of her that doesn't change. However, she might not understand how much she dislikes being seen as weak, and with more trust she'll be able to talk about the feelings that she keeps inside during the comic -- like her sadness over Dave's death and the death of her Grandpa -- and become healthier at coping with bad things, given the right team. While Jade in the comic is pretty cheery but hides all the bad things, this Jade with time might learn to let things go, rather than covering them up, and be more happy as a result.

(But she'll still be the straight man. That's her job.)
