-THEM-
Character name: Jade Harley
Series: Homestuck
Character history: History here!

For canon point, I'll be taking her from the end of Act 6 Intermission 2.
Character personality:
The first thing anyone notices when seeing Jade is generally her optimism and good natured speech style. This is fairly indicative of her personality; Jade believes in being nice to those who are nice in return, and is a big believer in second chances. She's a friendly, outgoing person who likes to think on the positive side -- even when the odds are against her, for example when she's told that the Scratch will obliterate her and her friends, she's determined to be the optimist, the person who keeps looking for a different answer. Mostly, this is because she's concerned for her friends; Jade legitimately takes pleasure in making her friends happy and keeping them safe. It is one of the biggest things that drives her -- she looks for the way to make a new universe because she believes that if she has her friends beside her and some good advice, she cannot fail. Not to say that she's completely dependent on her friends; Jade's a very independent person, taking charge in a lot of situations, like…household cleaning around Dave's apartment and getting everything set up so that the carapace in the future have everything they'll need for their plans to succeed. And even in saving the world, Jade didn't need much help. She'll rely on her intuition and trust that everything will work out…and usually it does! She's pretty smart! But when it doesn't, she has her friends to fall back on, and she's quick to pick herself up when she's down in the dumps.

However, Jade's temper can be short once and awhile, particularly with people who can't seem to do anything for themselves. Case in point: Jadesprite, whose constant stream of tears caused Jade to start screaming and slapping her. Mostly, Jade hates people who say that something is fatalistic -- that nothing will ever change it, that things are the way they are and they will never change. Which is why she detests that Jadesprite was part of herself, and even though now she accepts this fact, she still doesn't like the idea that not knowing what to do means she can sit in a corner and never do anything. She's an active person, and nothing will stop her. Karkat gets this side of Jade, as well -- she hates the idea that someone could fight with themselves so stupidly, and even cusses them out before ragequitting. She accepts that a person can hate a part of themselves -- this is normal. But blaming it on some other part of yourself that you don't accept is ridiculous and dumb. You have to be the whole person, or you're not yourself at all.

Since ascending to god tier, Jade seems to have become a little more mature -- probably because that's a lot of responsibility to put on someone's shoulders, saving her friends and the world with it. Her sadness, when she has it, makes her quieter, but doesn't dampen her optimism or her spunk. It just makes her a little bit older than she showed at thirteen. She always puts on a good face for her friends, and their reactions and craziness quickly turns her into the straight man -- she's not above telling someone like it is if she thinks it'll help them. However she's also not above keeping secrets from her friends if she doesn't want to spoil things, like not telling John when Davesprite broke up with her, or keeping the ultimate bunny a secret from her friends when it needed to be delivered to a certain place. Most of this stems from her visions on Prospit, as well as her conversations with trolls in dream bubbles -- though recently, due to a lack of communication in dream bubbles in general, Jade has had to rely on her own intuition to guide John whenever he's starting to act a bit weird. She's even delved into romance; in short, she's growing up on a tiny ship and being around the same people all the time starts to get to a person. While she's still the same Jade as before, she knows more about pop culture now thanks to John, and is no longer enchanted by the things she was two years ago, things like Squiddles and cute television shows. It's something she's come to readily accept -- people will change over the course of time, and your interests change too. Jade is just worried that the friends she had way back when won't be quite the same when she meets them next…but in traditional Jade fashion, she takes this one step at a time, never overly worrying about things to come when there's enough to take care of now.

well, approximately christmas
i didnt even get a chance to get everyone good gifts....
i will have to find something really quick! i dont want to leave anyone out
since i am new and all
i think it is important to make sure everyone gets included in the holidays
maybe there will even be snow this year?
i dont know where i am but it is probably more likely to snow here than at home
or on the ship, because it is flying through space
and i am relatively certain that no snow can exist there, and even if it did we were flying too fast for it to land on us and stick...

oh right!
i should introduce myself before i start giving gifts out

Log/prose based sample:
School! Jade was so excited that she thought she would bounce straight out of her desk's small seat and fall on the floor. It was a great act of effort to sit still and pay attention, even though she was twenty minutes early for homeroom and only a few people were there yet. Even her friends hadn't arrived -- she might have gotten there extremely early because she was so excited about her first day doing something she had only read about in stories. Growing up on an island had its advantages, but it was definitely lacking in one thing: communication with other kids her age, face to face.

Jade had already flipped through most of the school books -- most of the physics was stuff she knew when she was five, but the other things were new, and therefore exciting. She had eyed the english grammar suspiciously, because it was things she had never been told in her life: prepositional phrases and the proper way to use semicolons. But the books on the syllabus looked exciting -- King Lear and 1985 and all sorts of books Grandpa had in his library, sitting on bookshelves and looking suspiciously untouched --so she was willing to overlook the grammatical nonsense. Even history looked exciting, though Jade admitted that reading it in books was nowhere near as exciting as seeing it in clouds...still, concessions had to be made, she supposed.

Leaning forward on her desk, she doodled on a spare piece of notebook paper. Jade wondered if Rose and Dave would want to make a study group; John already seemed just as excited as she was, but those two would be the ones to work on if they wanted to do things as a group. Maybe Rose could help with English -- Jade hoped that, after a year of absolutely no communication, Rose still enjoyed that sort of creepy tentacle reading -- and Dave could help with... Jade doodled a big question mark. What was Dave good at? Rapping, drawing -- art class! Dave could help them with art class, because his art was undoubtedly the best. Surely after a year, it had only gotten better.

"I can help with physics, and John can help with...music." She nodded, setting the pen aside. She still had fifteen minutes to go until they could begin the day, but she was going to prepare as best she could.
